Willow
Before the 1960’s, when the use of man-made materials increased dramatically, willow was used widely in the making of everyday functional objects. Thankfully there is a raised awareness of the environmental damage of using man-made materials and there is now a positive move to reconnect with nature and use natural materials. The willow I use is sourced locally and harvested annually by hand. I really enjoy working with willow and appreciate its tactile and robust nature, the range of colours it offers and how it can be woven to create intricate and interesting forms.
Basketry
Whether its a collecting basket for a foraging trip or harvesting garden produce, a log basket for storing logs by the fire or an aesthetic piece for display there is a basket for every occasion.
Garden Structures
To enjoy your garden plants to the full they will benefit from some support and shelter. Your sweet peas or climbing beans are easily gathered from an obelisk, herbaceous favourites can hold their heads high with a woven plant support and willow hurdles can divide open areas to provide privacy and shelter.
Homeware
Beyond baskets for the home willow is suitable for creating a wide range of decorative objects to adorn the home throughout the year; a natural mobile for a childs’ room, a seasonal wreath for the door, or a bird feeder to keep garden visitors satisfied are just the start of it.
Sculpture
Suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings willow sculptures can add interesting forms and textures to compliment both formal and informal spaces.
Commissions
The products on this website are a mere taster of the range of items that can be crafted from willow. If you have a particular idea in mind, want a bespoke piece made to specific dimensions or numbers of products in excess of those available I am happy to discuss your requirements and take individually commissioned work to meet your needs.
